Beach at Trouville, 1870

Details     Description

Artist Monet, Oscar-Claude

With its lively, atmospheric portrayal of daily life at a fashionable seaside resort,Monetchanged his style at Trouville, starting to use a brighter palette and focusing on the effects of light. He had been rejected from the Salon recently, while his fellow artists, Manet, Degas, Pissarro, Renoir and Sisley had all been accepted, but this work remains optimistic, daring and confident. Grains of sand confirm that the work was at least partly painted on the beach.
